Peter Sutton, Managing Director – Sutton Tools & President – AMTIL

The Global Tungsten Position

Managing Director of Sutton Tools, one of Australia’s most enduring family engineering businesses, now in its 110th year of operation. Under his leadership, the company has achieved substantial growth including the successful expansion into international markets, with approximately 40% of Sutton Tools manufactured products now sold overseas through integrated operations across Europe, Asia, and the USA.

Peter’s career in manufacturing spans over 30 years, covering a diverse range of functions across the business — from logistics and operations through to manufacturing leadership. His deep, hands-on understanding of the industry has been central to Sutton Tools’ evolution into a globally competitive, technology-driven organisation, including partnerships with Swinburne University and the ARC Digital Manufacturing Hub to advance smart manufacturing and digital transformation.

Peter has a genuine passion for maintaining Australia’s manufacturing capabilities, believing this to be fundamental to the nation’s future economic prosperity and employment. Appointed President of AMTIL in 2025, he continues to champion industry representation and advocate for a resilient, competitive Australian manufacturing sector at both a state and national level.
